Kamala Harris
Kamala Devi Harris, born October 20 1964 was a prominent American politician and lawyer. She is currently the 49th vice president of the United States. Harris is the first vice president to be female and highest-ranking female official of U.S. History, as also the first African American and second Asian American vice president. As a member the Democratic Party, she was the attorney general of California between 2011 and 2017 and was she was a United States senator representing California in 2017-2021. Harris was born in Oakland and attended Howard University, University of California, Hastings College of the Law. Her professional career started with the Alameda County District Attorney's Office. Harris was later promoted to the San Francisco District Attorney's Office. In 2003, she was elected district attorney of San Francisco. She was elected Attorney-General of California in 2010, and was elected again in 2014. Harris was the junior United States Senator from California between 2017 and 2021. Harris defeated Loretta Santiago in the 2016 Senate election making her the second African American woman to serve in the Congress, and the first South Asian American American to be elected to the United States Senate. Harris was a senator and was a vocal advocate for reforms to healthcare as well as federal cannabis de-scheduling the possibility of citizenship for immigrants without a legal status and the DREAM Act, a ban against assault weapons and progressive tax reform. Her sharp questioning of Trump officials during Senate hearings has earned her national attention, including the second Supreme Court nominee, Brett Kavanaugh who was indicted with sexual assault.
